3 Tips for Biology exams
Here are three study tips to help you make the best of the holiday period so you can score well in your Biology exams in the new academic year.
1 Study Past-Year Exam Papers
Textbooks and lecture notes tend to contain a lot of information, which may overwhelm and discourage students. A more effective study method is to utilise past-year exam questions and the answer key to familiarise yourself with the keywords and recurring types of questions that may appear in your exams.
2 Use Diagrams to Memorise Concepts
If you’ve not had much success memorising text, try finding diagrams that illustrate biology concepts in your textbook or on the Internet and attach them to your notebook for revision purposes. You may find it easier to memorise a diagram of how root pressure works, for example, than a lengthy paragraph explaining the process (refer to the diagram below).
3 Keep Track of Your Mistakes
As we tend to repeat the same mistakes when they are not addressed properly, it is crucial to keep track of past mistakes you’ve made. Understand why you made the mistake and make sure to revisit those questions before upcoming exams. You will eventually learn to spot similar questions and know how to avoid making the same mistakes.
